Why I'm running for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Board of Directors

A bit about me.

My name is Skylar Franke, and I'm a city Councillor for London Ontario. I've served one year on the FCM Board, and have attended all the Board and Committee meetings and Lobby Days. I am passionate about working with our federal partners to make sure municipalities have what they need to thrive, including proper funding and policies to support infrastructure growth.

I'm running for re-election for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Board of directors because I believe I bring a fresh perspective and a laser focus. I was previously an Executive Director for an environmental charity, and I understand the relationship between a board and staff, as well as the commitment to good board governance. I am eager to continue lobbying federal officials for a new Municipal Growth Framework that ensures municipalities have the resources they need to succeed.

What drives me.

I ran because I wanted to make a difference, specifically helping my city get serious about climate change. I also became a mom in 2022 (during my campaign!) and I want to leave the world in a better spot for my son. I'm unapologetically using a cute baby photo (see right) to solicit your vote.

I'd like to continue offering strong leadership from the Southwestern Ontario area, one of the fastest growing regions in Canada. As an urban representative, I know how important it is to work with rural counterparts to ensure that decisions made at the national level offer solutions to all municipalities. I know every city in Canada has it's unique challenges, and requires strong advocates to make change. I'm hoping to offer that on behalf of my community.

I hope I can count on your support for the FCM Board of Directors.
